Community Resource Day at Barnes UMC
The You Feed Them Missional Food Pantry hosted the 4th annual Community Resource Day at Barnes UMC. This is event has become a resource connector and relationship builder in the United Northwest Area neighborhood (UNWA). In 2021, 381 children were registered for new shoes and over 430 children received supply-filled backpacks. In addition, each family received a “Lit Bag”, filled with community resource information and messages of God’s love. 16 resource vendors were on-site to provide in-person information and in some cases, services on the spot. In addition, this year marked the beginning of the Youth Financial Literacy initiative, borne of a partnership between You Feed Them MFP and Christian Family Credit Union. Each year, Community Resource Day is much more than a one day event, and with this new financial literacy initiative, is actively helping children and youth in the community learn the value of saving for the future.
