Ramp Up for Freedom, Dignity and Independence
SAWs is dedicated to providing freedom to low-income, permanently disabled individuals through the construction of exterior residential wheelchair ramps. In 2019 a total of 120 ramps were built by volunteer teams at no cost to homeowners. That number was not possible in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions, but the organization was determined and was still able to complete 20 ramp builds in 2020. The first build of 2020 was for Mary, a Central Indiana resident who has suffered from serious health issues for several years and is currently bed-ridden. There had been no safe means to leave her home except by ambulance. Now, Mary’s new ramp is the key to brighter and healthier days ahead for her.
