Neighborhood Handyman Help Program
NeighborLink Indy (NLI) provides home repairs at no cost to low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities, who own their own homes and are unable to keep up with home maintenance issues. In 2020, NLI envisioned a program where neighbors could come together to assist neighbors with routine maintenance to prevent ongoing damage and the need for extensive and/or expensive repair work down the road. They began this program focused on gutter maintenance and connected with two Indianapolis neighborhoods to recruit neighbors to help. In their first year, 23 neighbors have been recruited, and they have established relationships with three homeowner, with whom they have worked to ensure their gutters are now in shape for annual routine maintenance. NLI is actively building relationships with more homeowners and their neighbors, so this innovate program continues to grow.
