W.I.N.G.S: We Inspire Nurture Guide & Support

Project W.I.N.G.S was founded in April 2017 as an extension of Scott UMC’s mental health initiative. W.I.N.G.S seeks, first and foremost, to prevent and decrease the number of deaths by suicide and suicide attempts in the Scott UMC community. The leaders intend to overcome the stigma of mental health and promote mental health wellness through education, awareness and compassionate care. Project W.I.N.G.S is held weekly via both virtual and in-person formats, by having mental health experts when available providing education, wellness support and resources. Coping skills workshops are also available on topics such as music and art therapy, meditation, creative writing. Supportive groups are also offered on a rotating basis with themes such as suicide survivors, grief and bereavement, depression, caregivers, anti-bullying and suicide prevention.
