Community Garden and Hot Meals Programs
Metro Ministries, Inc.’s grant was to go to increase the capacity of Fletcher Place’s community garden in its second year, with the purchase of more seeds, materials for more raised beds and much needed tools. However, capacity had to be cut back due to the inability to have as many volunteers as expected. The gardens were still planted and harvested and the produce shared with the community every Saturday during the entire harvest season. With the cutbacks in the garden planting, the remaining funds went towards the Hot Meals program where hot meals were prepared and distributed four days a week throughout the pandemic. As a community center located in the heart of an under-resourced community, Fletcher Place leadership, staff and volunteers were determined to continue to meet the needs of their neighbors.
