Barnes UMC, through their missional food pantry, feeding ministries and community outreach work, is a valuable resource in their community. They have continued to serve in this year of social distancing and restrictions on indoor gatherings, adapting well to these added challenges. This year’s Community Resource Day was no exception.
Barnes UMC hosted their third annual Back to School Community Resource Day on Saturday, August 8. The day included 246 supply-filled backpacks distributed and 238 children registered for new shoes from Shoe Carnival. Hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, snacks and ice cream were available, and there were six community resource providers onsite including Shalom Health Care Center and IMPD.
Over 20 volunteers came together from diverse backgrounds to make the day safe and successful. With hand sanitizer at all stations and parking lot attendants encouraging mask-wearing and social distancing, the community was able to serve and be served.
